So here I go again.
I have been warned not to use old fuel as the ethanol additive will attract water and if left in the carberator and engine will cause corrosion, apart from the odd occasion that it may not start due to massive collection of water.
I'm advised to buy Stihl's MotoMix which is a Benzl and Ethanol free high octane petrol with Ultra Special biodegradable oil pre mixed. There is a claim that it has a 2 year shelf life whereas it is not recommend to use ethanol based petrol after 3 months.
In taking over this with a number of dealers and tech staff I decidef to buy 5Lt of MotoMix with the idea that if I were to put the FS460 away for any lenght of time I would run iton that to clear out the common petrol / ultra oil mix. In the discussions I would then leave the mix in so as to stop damp air entering the carbertor and cylinder so as to thwart corrosion. Iwas told it wouldalso keep the diaphram moist and stop them drying out, which I had alrady thought of.
But alas the manual does not agree.

After Finishing Work
Storing for a short period:

Storing the Machine
If the machine is to remain out of use for approx. 3 months or more
- Drain and clean the fuel tank in a well ventilated place
- Dispose of fuel in accordance with the regulations and having regard for the environment
- Run the engine until the carburetor is dry. This helps to prevent the carburetor diaphragms sticking together.
- Remove, clean and inspect the cutting attachment. Treat metal cutting attachments with protective oil.
- Thoroughly clean the machine
- Store the machine in a dry and safe place, out of the reach of children and other unauthorized users
