Clearing Saw Stihl FS460Updated: July 6th, 2019
Created: July 11th, 2015Summary of Shredder cost so far:
- The first quote was for a blade at £30.30 and a guard at £80 as per the catalogue, of course I would need to buy the guard ring which is at least £13.33 according to Jan, so a total of £123.33 from the first dealer.
- The catalogue pack comes in at £80
- Jan at 'Patch and Acre' can provide the separate parts, the blade, the guard with fixing screws and the guide ring for (£30.30, £24.74 and £13.33) a sum of £66.33
- Meanwhile in talking toRadmore & Tucker: 01392 254270, about the anomalies in the Retro Guard fittings they put together the parts for me at £55.09
Whether the first dealer was aware of differences I will never know, but the start of the problem is the way Stihl presents the spares for sale.
So my idea of the retro pack are
a) there is no need to call the pack for the FS460 retro and
b) it should have a different image without the plate and with only three screws.
Now of course comes the pricing issue again. Why is the one with the extra plate and screw so that the kit can be retro fitted to the FS600 cheaper than the one without the extra bits. Maybe it's just another error on the website.
Now all of the above I discussed with technical support to find out details and customer support to say how frustrating and difficulties was to get a simple blade and appropriate fittings without being misled.
At last after dozens of phone calls today I have ploughed my way through the barrage of mistakes, lack of knowledge from technical support and woefully inadequate customer services and just about feel confident in buying a blade and guard without being treated like an idiot and ripped off. And I assure you it is not the money, but being treated like a dog that make me want to bite back.
Oh! of course I have to buy fittings to attach the blade to the shaft, no wonder they don't provide a blade as default look at all the bits that are needed. Apparently there's a thrust washer and thrust nut to secure the blade.
No big deal just add a (4128 713 1600) and a (4119 642 7600) and we are away adding another half a dozen squid to the dish.
But Lo! and Behold!, Clare from customer support has recognised the struggle I've been having and offers to send me the washer and nut gratis.
