Pruning Fruit Trees 20~21
November 29th, 2020Pruning has not been a habit or love of mine but after a decade of generally leaving growth alone I am undertaking some serious cutback. There are a few reasons:
- To lower the height of the trees, to help picking and 2 below
- To round the top so I can thrown a net over to keep birds off
- To allow better air flow, as being by the river means there is a lot of damp air encouraging all kinds of fungi and rot.
- Mar 18th Pruned the stock apple tree
- Feb 5th Pruned the primary apple tree
- Jan 28th Finished pruning the plum tree
- Dec 19th Cut back the Worcester apple tree
- Nov 27th Cut back the two pear trees
Rats ate the Broccoli
March 14th, 2021Although fencing off a partition may have helped save some crops from rabbits rats have burrowed and come up and eaten all the carrots in 2020 and most of the broccoli.
