Himalyan Balsam

Diary of work in Area 2

15th May Cleared dozens from the eastern extreme of, on the river side of the bund.
6th July Pulled 150 mostly from the strip eastward.
7th July Pulled 152 mostly from the strip eastward.
14th July Pulled and 215 mostly from the strip eastward. however the large majority of the 205 were from the eastern edge adjacent the drainage ditch and covered only a few metres.
21st July Found 3 on travels from the far fields.
10th AugustI didn't realise I'd not been here for a few weeks. Pulled 109 as far east as where it narrows on the map, the end of the tree patch. Some were flowering but none seeding so all is good.
12th August Pulled 86 east of the tree bit mentioned above, then started slashing due to density. Have cleared on the drainage side of the bund and the top of the bund up to the willow tree at the end of the top dotted line running east. Some heads are seeding; so not so good.
13th August Pulled 14 on the way to east of Area, where I pulled out all the Himalayan Balsam from the top of the bund towards the river. I have made a bridge across the drain and slashed a small patch on the northern edge of the drain just west of a couple of silver birch, west of the willow.
31st August Cleared area 2 took; it less than an hour.

20th September Cleared area 2: 12 from the main block and 42 from the extension eastward.
