Trail of Tears Beans: Soaking, Potting, Planting out and Harvesting

Trail of Tears

First lot
  • May 6th: Soaking 15 beans that Teph (Steve Dobbie) brought from California USA
  • May 9th: They are sprouting so · and made bed for them.
  • May 10th: Erected canes but will have to protect as not within 'the fence'
  • May 14th: ' 11/15
  • May 16th: 14/15  🌱 Couldn't find the 15th in the pot, but there were a few that looked a bit off.
  • May 19th: One died-rotted maybe too much heat under a container. 13/15 🌱
  • Jun 9th: 12/13 still alive.
  • Aug 18th: Forgot to mention the deer ate most of the growth but I have since encaged them and they are producing, maybe only enough to sow again next year.
Beans are not black as I thought they would be.

On the small side and magenta
  • Sept 12: Picked a few to eat, some were a bit stringy

    110g fresh to eat.

  • Sept. 19th: As the young plants were eaten by 'deer' the regrowth has taken time so the beans are late appearing, yet so far I have a few dozen dried. . . .
  • Sept. 26th:
September 26th: Podded to the left | 119 dry to the right.
  • Oct. 3rd: More dried. Update maybe 320 seeds per 100g
  • Oct. 10th: Approx 200g now
  • Oct. 19th: Final count 350g or 1120 beans. From 12 beans
