Environmental ImpactUpdated: June 12th, 2024
Created: June 12th, 2024Given the ELF trust's focus is on Environmental Impact I have this, these ongoing considerations.
Generally there two statuses that I see.
REI (Relative)
Comparing Environmental Impact to others, which is the campaigning and political game to influence others and thereby appear to better the standing in a particular community the Relative Environmental Impact
The individual wanting to have the best REI will become extreme and will logically advance to AEI
AEI (Absolute)
With no comparison there is just an ongoing integrity of reducing personal impact this is also an Extreme measure as a meditation to understand sustainability as an eternal property and not the mortal consciousness of survival by consumption and the dependence on destruction necessary in consumption.
The problems with this is how to measure the IELU impact. One clear indication is if a comparison is made of 'today's impact compared to yesterday's, by week by month and by year \etc.
Another measure is the sheer mass of material accumulated and that disposed of. That there is no disposal is not an indicator if all the accumulation is growing.
On a very personal bodily nutrition yes size does matter but the shelter and entertainment assets can be a clear greater impact.
However the consumption of products in only possible because of their creation and demand.
With biological products there is the growing condition and impact which is addressed via organic and vegan practices but they are largely Relative and questionable.
With regard to other consumables, plastic clothing, plastics, fossil fuel, electronics, minerals, metals, rare elements reduction and recycling are the options. In the REI although reduction is often the frst term user recycling is the mainstay of continued consumerism.
