21:38 Permalink Pricing & Price List

Categories: Admin

Prices on any invoice are still subject to change. My invoices are based upon current catalogue prices, which are only printed bi-monthly. Essential Trading, Bristol have new stock delivered daily and update their prices as they arrive. So even once I've sent my order to them, usually a Wednesday, they can update prices by Friday when my order is picked and packed.

This price list from August 2017, will open in another tab; other products are available.

As I will be required to pay the current prices any changes will be passed on to my customers.

The method I use to calculate final invoice is

  1. to update the price, where necessary
  2. 4.65% is incorporated into the price
  3. If the order is over £80 a further 5% is added on the invoice, if less than £80 a flat charge of £4 is added
  4. A discount is often applied to attentive consumers
  5. The final value is then rounded to the nearest pound
  6. The request to pay to the nearest £5 above, n the invoice is a) to avoid coins and b) to help cover any increases, that may occur.
  7. You will only pay the value in 5 above, any outstanding credit or debt will be returned or requested from you.

Payment

Generally I would like you to pay before I order. If you live locally you can bring me cash, else I will send you my bank account details to enable a direct transfer.

Thank you

12:15 Permalink Meridian Almond Nut Butter

Categories: Manufacturers, Product Info

I called as the almond butter was tasteless and dark, as though it had been roasted too much.

Good to talk to you last week.

The Organic Almond Butter dated Aug 2018 – we have actually had a few consumer comments about this product exactly along the lines that we discussed. It appears that part of the batch got slightly over roasted and it has resulted in some dark bits in the product. We have tested our retained samples and everything is perfectly safe. This is the downside of working with natural ingredients and as mentioned we have had some ‘drier / lower oil level almonds coming through from California.

Please do let me know if you would like us to replace these free of charge, just send me an address and we can get these posted out to you?

12:11 Permalink Peanuts

Categories: Manufacturers, Product Info

I've been aware for a few years that more often than not, in fact I haven't found otherwise, that organic peanuts are from China; there are Fairtrade options too, in China.

Recently I received an email from Meridian Foods concerning this.

Organic Peanut Butter 1kg – this batch was made with Organic Chinese Peanuts. Currently the Organic peanuts coming from China are the most reliable and best quality in the market. I appreciate your comments on the sourcing concerns around China however, please be assured that we take every possible measure to ensure these peanuts do comply with the very strict Organic guidelines. At present we hold good stock of Organic Peanuts from China and will be using these in the coming months. As you are no doubt aware the price of peanuts has rocketed in the past few months. This has particularly affected the conventional peanuts and hence we have had to raise the prices of our conventional peanut butter by 25% however, the Chinese are producing really good harvests of Organic peanuts which has meant that we have only raised this price by 8%. If we were sourcing Californian Organic Peanuts we probably would have moved over 15%. So, commerciality is a factor as well.

I have discussed (albeit informally) your suggesting on indicating the country of origin of the nuts somewhere on the packaging. We are restricted by Trading Standards as to how much we can print next to the BEST Before date and we do change the origin of our nuts fairly frequently. So, whilst I buy into your suggestion completely I am afraid that the practicalities will probably get in the way.

Categories: Product Info, Alcohol

Bought a couple form Harvest Bristol. Having enjoyed it before I was very disappointed this time as the perry seemed to be heavy and flavour-less. About to stash the second bottle for a rainy day I happened to check the date Sept 2015, called Weston's who confirmed that it is the BB date and added that they don't make the organic perry any more; no wonder I've had difficulty finding any.

According to the website Cruelty Free Kitty, some of the brands that don't that are "cruelty-free and vegan" are Lush, Pixi and Barry M. Since March 2013, it has also been illegal to sell cosmetics products within the EU which have been, or which contain ingredients, newly tested on animals https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/40440306/nars-make-up-boycotted-after-cosmetics-tested-on-animals-in-china
