Sewing Shirt #1

Sewing

The main note is that all the stitching is manual although I do have a manual Singer sewing machine. The second note is that all stitching is a back stitch.

All the seems are looped.

Unlike common machine stitch 'back sticking' does not unravel when cut or damages and is stronger and I see no way of using a machine.

Another important issue is sewing is a form of focus, and manual stitching lends itself more to that.

One issue with backstitch that I have only just resolved is the doubling on the underside, which was so often hidden that I didn't try to resolve it. I did notice however that when using a double thread i.e. when using thin thread I could get the needle to go down between the two thread and it would give a more careful looking row.

But a couple of days ago I realised, when using a few layers on the cuffs, that I could angel the needle so that the underneath exit was forward of the upper entry and so would show like the top as a row of stitches with breaks.

The task now is to see if I can do this well enough especially on only two layers of thin material.
