Hi Joanna

This is some of the detail about the Portwest Overalls/Coveralls

As I said I spoke to someone at Portwest who said to contact you.

The issue is the sizing. I am 5ft 8in but my legs are 2" shorter than average at 29" so I buy medium size clothing and with trousers length I usually have to hem them a bit.

The medium overalls are way too big and I wondered if that was a Portwest packaging issue or a manufacturing one, so I thought I would check the measures provided by Portwest and compare them to measurements I would take.

What I found was the actual sizes made little sense in measuring and the PDF file that Portwest provided, even less sense. In fact the PDF measurements provided seem quite ridiculous in some case. However I could be reading the data poorly

So let me address the figures provided first.

I will start with the Medium size:

Chest (Relaxed): 108cm or 42.5" (Hardly a medium)
The actual chest measurement is 122cm or 48"
I would have to go for the Xsmall at 102cm 40"

Inseam (Inside Leg): 81cm or 32"

(This is what I would expect and hem a couple of inches, although I note this measurement is the same for the whole range of 10 sizes.

The actual measurement is as stated 81cm SO OK

Can work out how this will go with a 6 foot person or taller, unless they have short legs ??

Sleeve Length: (12cm below neck): 84cm or 33"

This would suit a body more like a chimpanzee with long arms

My under arm length is 54cm and yet even the Very Small size is stated as 82cm

The actual measurements are

Inside sleeve length 51.5cm

Outside sleeve length 63cm

Practically the 54cm is usable with a bit of hemming

Nape to crotch: 94cm or 37"

From my chin to crotch is 78cm

Overall if I add the actual measurements of leg and crotch to nape I get 94 + 81 which is 175 or 69"

This would fit a person over 6' 9" even without a head.

So sure it would be a tight fit for a person 7' 6"

Not sure what to do.

previously I have bought Dickies from somewhere but I didn't like that they were made in China, the sizes though were perfect in one case and a little large in the other, but nothing like these Portwest items.

I imagine I could buy the extra small, but according to Portwest the very small but I have no confidence that the measurement son their PDF are accurate in major ways.

Chest: 102cm or 40" Inseam: The same at 81cm. etc. which would be an improved fit, if the garment was as described.

Maybe you would be so kind as to ask them to contact me, though I will copy this email to Portwest anyway.
