April 25th 2026 Took the chain tensioner apart and cleaned it. It seemed to work better after that
April 24th 2026 Looks like the chain tensioner is duff as the wheel can turn even when the clutch case is down tight.

So it looks like taking the tensioner apart to see how it is, but as it is really just the adjuster I'm still thinking about the actual pressure on the bar to stop it moving
April 23rd 2026 There was a jumping and catching so have cleaned the chain area, bar, sprocket, oil channel etc. One idea is that as the chain has been 'caught' few times maybe one link is misaligned, so if it works with a new chain then I will check over the 'older' one. 16:10 Seems fine now, so better check the other chain. Still not sure the oil is getting through very well.
16th November 2025 Replaced the whole 'kit' as there was a bit of wear on one of the 'nylon' pulley mech. This mean remove and replacing the pull cord. I managed to undo the small knot on the pulley. This mean it was a little shorter and was impossible to engage the pulley with the return spring, i.e. to engage the end of the return spring with the notch in the pulley. I decided to remove the 'return cassette', attach the pulley aligned, then turn the cassette anti clockwise to put a bit of tension in the spring. Then assemble the main recoil spring on top. used the chainsaw and all seems fine.
31st October 2025 Sadly apart from a messed up delivery by Royal mail, the spring was as concerned, not a proper fit. Here is an image of the two and for future ref. The plate with the model and serial number.

27th October 2025 :: Bought from LS Engineers and did ask about dimensions of spring due to image having more coils. Wait to what arrives. £10.60 in P&P
26th October 2025 :: Recoil spring snapped in pull starter; See LS Engineers and ask about dimensions of spring due to image having more coils.
28th March 2025 :: Replaced Brake Handle. Cut some branches from trees felled and brake handle works fine. ✅
26th March 2025 :: One Brake handle and spark plug arrived ✅ Found a spare spark plug
23th March 2025 :: Got brake released - real pain :: Brake handle not replaced ✘ Engine runs OK ✅
13th March 2025 :: 11 years old: Pulled heavy branch down on it and broke spark plug, ✘ damaged cylinder fin and snapped brake handle, ✘ for the second time. See comment 3 when ready
21st Sept 2024 The starter rope didn't recoil. Loosening the central allen key screw and re-tightening it worked fine
20th Dec 2022 Can't believe it's nine years old. Broke brake handle. ✘ See comment 2
22nd Nov 2018 First problems after nearly five years :: See comment #1
Bought a new saw on 21st Jan 2014, as the previous Husqi, a 455, was stolen from the boat. I thought a slightly lighter version would be good, due to my ageing weakening :)
A problem arose after a month, well after some couple of hours total work; the starting rope didn't recoil properly although I managed to use it a bit with a shortened pull.
I took off the recoil housing and dropped a spot of oil on the retaining bolt and noticed that the nylon pulley wasn't flush with it's mounting block; causing some friction maybe. I did get it to loosen up but the problem arose again after a few starts.
I called DS Bennett UK of Tavistock, where I bought it, and was advised to bring it in rather than take the recoil mechanism apart myself.
They had a look and couldn't see much wrong, maybe the easy start spring was a bit out of line. I took it home and it was fine the first day. I used a tank of fuel, that's some 15 min of work and all was fine, having started it quite a number of times in that period.
However after getting some more fuel on Tuesday18th evening the problem arose again first thing Wednesday morning. I spoke to Bennett's again. The view was that a new recoil unit would be obtained from Husqvarna. I asked them to call me when they receive it and I would bring the saw in then, only to be told they wanted the saw to see which parts to ask for as Husqvarna would only warrantee bits they agreed on. Hmmm! a conflict of info there so I tried to contact Husqvarna.
Contacting Husqvarna wasn't pleasant. First of there was no phone number on the website. What I wanted was a response the conflicting info from Bennett's. I found the number by the usual search trick of typing in { Husqvarna UK + Tel} > 01325302302. However they were ugly useless.
I did however discover on their website that there is a two year warrantee once the product is registered by the dealer or owner. As Bennett failed to do so or inform me I was rather annoyed and registered on-line immediately.
The warrantee conditions
Will update this later as I intend to try and email Husqvarna about my concerns.
Thursday 20th I took the saw to Bennet's again. This time they are going to keep it and order a new easy-start spring; thinking that may be the problem, although their seems nothing wrong with the existing one. Apparently, one of those faults that's hard to fathom.
