Makita Brushcutter:

July 2nd, 2025

This is a diary of my use of Gavin's Makita Brushcutter. Thanks by the way :)

The most powerful Makita LXT is the DUR369A. The X1 is with cutting attachments
  • DUR369AZX1 36V (AZ No batteries and charger)
  • DUR369AGX1 (AG with batteries and charger)
Makita Brush Cutter LXT ® DUR369A
Makita BVrush Cutter LXT ® DUR369A with batteries.

Whereas the Makita is only about a tenth as powerful as the Sthil and the batteries only last a third of the time 0.7lt of petrol it is much lighter, it is not deafening so I don't wear the helmet with ear muffs. The shorter period of use, the light weight also mean it is easier to use, almost pleasant in that I don't have to hype myself up and I don't have to sweat. Definitely something I would have to consider buying. It's just the impact of having Li-ion batteries made

2026
  • Mar 5th: 1 charge: Around the veggie area with blade
  • Mar 18th: 2 charge: 1 around the veggie area and 1 around the bottom parking area of △, both with blade
  • Apr 23rd: 1 charge: Around the veggie area with strimmer: Tried a second run but one battery was not charged . Charged second battery and all OK
  • Apr 27th: 1 charge: Down to the boat
  • Apr 28th: 1 charge: Edges of inhabited area
  • May 8th: 1 charge: 80m along the bund north from 27th April
  • May 10th: 1 charge: Further along the bund north from 8th May
  • May 12th: 1 charge: After noticing many bluebells I decided to do three small areas. First was continuation north, past the Elder tree a little, where a few bluebells were cut. Secondly I went to the JK patch and cleared the bund there and south a bit to the willow with purple toothwort. I can then rake up the debris and bring it back to monitor it. Thirdly the area that dips below the cut willow on the bund.
  • May 15th: 1 charge: Apart from scooting around a few Bluebells and Red Campion the bund is cleared north to same 5m beyond the 'felled willow.
  • May 30th: 2 charge: The track from Top to △ Centre and side hedges.
  • June 7th: 1 charge: Bottom track in △and the track from △ to Trekensa Gardens: side hedges.

Coveralls

July 5th, 2017

Changed the name from Overalls to Coveralls.

June 11th 2026

Ordered two of Portwest'sC814100% cotton, made in Bangladesh. £26.20 each.

Arrived on 23rd. Haven't tried one on yet.

June 26th 2026

OK they are way to big, and called Portwest who said to contact the vendors:

Here isthe emailI sent

My overalls are a bit ragged and the poppets duff, so they are not protective against bugs, small debris from vegetation and chainsaw dust etc. Being fed up with trying to find Fairtrade organic cotton ones, with zips. I bought these from

Contact details are no longer valid. 26th June 2026

Sadly one is two are 65% polyester and I think one has teflon coating. (page 3)
Seebbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-40498292At least they won't get washed much and even then the crap will stay on the land.

Received and after some deliberation have decided to keep one of the polycotton them, would have been better just to order the cotton and wait for the light-weight option. But returning is a journey for me and a bit of extra work for others, all down to me.

Good to have zip to keep out the dust and insects. Mind you the side slots could do with zips?

Redhawk overall £26.50

Dickies Redhawk overalls
The style is fine but the colour is a bright orange, brighter than the image advertised.

100% cotton overall £48

Dickies cotton overalls
Again the colour is off, this is much richer and brighter, and the reflective strips are grey, not so white as in the image. The zips tracks are plastic.
Fuck I forgot ask where they are made, fucking China I've discovered.

Makita DUR369

April 6th, 2025

April 6th 2025 Tried Gavin's brushcutter with strimmer head to go around paths between the beds. It was very effective and lasted about 16 min, though Gavin said with lower revs he got 30+

April 30th 2025 Tried Gavin's brushcutter with metal blade to go around paths between the beds. Not half as effective as the strimmer.

Definitely worth considering a buy as it is easy to use and not a problem for power when the sun is out to recharge the batteries.

It hangs fine on the harness I have, but the shaft is bit short and the cutting element hits the ground a bit when cutting low requires a bit on forward angfling..
