The latch on the bypass secateurs did not engage after opening. The problem seems to have arisen as it was very tight pressing o the latch to get the secateurs open, and then would not re-engage as the latch didn't align with the base.

I took the latch off, which is very flimsy and bent it so it will engage. However it is so flimsy I'm pretty sure it will bend again and snap, so am preparing to make a replacement out of stainless steel.

Before and After

By the way: Though the screw holding the latch looks a bit 'loose and wayward' is was very very tight, maybe held with loctite glue ??
