Now it wasn't technical support that helped resolve the issue about the retro kits. They didn't know and couldn't be bothers to find out and my queries to customer services were being fobbed off.
I decided to go on line and search for FS480 and came up with an as yet unknown to me Stihl dealer in Exeter. I explained briefly the problem and someone confirmed that the guard on the new FS 460 was fitted to the gearbox and in the old model is was attached to the shaft as I had deliberated.
Without going into details with Jan Rayner and Radmore and Tuckers support I had saved £100 overall so I thought I would buy extra fittings, a three blade cutter and a circular saw.
Having been bitten more that once I looked into the requirements to use them.
I was already going to buy the Special 2 blade and the necessary bits for that and it is worth noting here that although Clare at Stihl customer support said she will send me free of charge a thrust washer and nut for all my troubles, I am going to buy them from Radmore and Tucker in case Stihl don't come through.
And of course mustn't forget the 'Rider Plate' (4119-713-3100) for more squid as you would now be used to.
So let's have some images here before I dig into the next pile of much. Images I've taken from RadmoreTucker.co.uk as Stihl don't seem to have good ones in fact the website doesn't indicate the need for such parts nor have I found them in any of the kits or packs????
So without further ado here are the some of the more sociable of the denizens.
OK on to the final deep sea searches
