Dave King of Trekensa Gardens approached me with the work he was doing on upgrading the internet, on a few occasions. Somewhere around the autumn of 2019 Dave had discovered a grant to communities that wanted FTTP. Although I did and do not want it, it seemed more prudent to have it as a) it was a community issue and Dave is my immediate neighbour b) It may be desirable in future for someone and c) The cost to me, apart from the intrusion of the fibre was to commit to a once of one year contract for FTTP broadband. No doubt I will have some use for it, become a little depended upon it and keep the contract indefinitely.

FTTP is optic fibre direct from the exchange to the individual property, unlike FTTC which is Fibre To The Cabinet. FTTC has optic fibre form the exchange to the Green Box local distribution station from where twin copper cables run to individual properties. This option wasn't available here as a) the cabinet was saturated with connections and the loss along the copper would be too great and could even reduce the bit rate. FTTC can reach above 45Mb for thse close to the cabinet, whereas FTTP can reach 320Mb.

July 7thInstallation of the conduit to house the fibre Once Open-Reach have installed the fibre the job is then to select a provider.

September 11th Bardens have installed fibre to the track box. Once all of the local network has been installed there will be a light test to see if the fibres are efficient enoughas conduits. Then maybe it will be time to register for a contract.
