We have been exploring the idea of internet access on the land using mobile phone. The indication is that there is only 1-2 bars of signal and 3 bars are necessary for using Google, although 1-2 is sufficient for email and FaceBook. Before we go any further we have been advised to ask someone with a smart phone / or similar to go to the caravan and check what signal is available. If you could do this Roger and let us know we can decide whether there is any point is pursuing this direction.Link to answer
We commenced our agriculture business, on our last visit August 14th 2013, by preparing our first garden bed and planting some leek and brassica seedlings, protecting them closely from the deer. Now we are away for a week with my sisters visit. We also hope to negotiate storage here with our landlord for a few months to take the pressure off our situation. At this time I, Juliet, found one plant of Ragwort in the triangle field (poisonous to horses) and uprooted it.( I left this in a bag at your door step to let you know and to leave you to dispose of it properly ). The tupperware I left belongs to Mikhail.Found the ragwort, will return the tupperware and ate the pie on Monday or Tuesday?? {rowena told me about it)
As Jhana had cut his foot we decided to leave a day earlier and on our way out whilst trying to put the gate back it fell on my leg bruising it badly. I realised that I would be incapable of opening and shutting that on my own and it was even difficult to help Jhana do it when his foot was wounded. We have decided to proritise hanging the gate to alleviate this obstacle and would like to check with you some points.Explains the branch. As it was unstable when I climbed the gate, it''s back as usual with the telegraph pole. Rowena said Jhana may have cut his foot with a spade, going through his wellie but didn''t say you also hurt yourself.
We have got a couple of gate fixings that are small but would be suitable for the small, pedestrian gate. Do you have large ones for the main gate or shall we source these ourselves? Also, are you happy for us to use the telegraph pole , cut to size, for the post or would you prefer to keep that as a length for some other purpose? Jhana has suggested the piece of oak, already on the ground up near the caravan that you felled some years ago would be ideal. If not we have a piece of telegraph pole here we could bring , but that is only 4-5 ft long and may lack in length for the job, if you include 18'''' in the ground. Hopefully you can let us know what you think before we return next tuesday. For a post I would rather a new piece of oak that''s just about the right height and diameter, shouldn''t be too difficult to find something. Fittings depend on how it''s set up. I don''t plan ahead. The main job is deciding to move the granite post, which has at least one fitting.
On our next visit we also intend to spend our time focussing on getting the weeds with you Roger showing us where and I''ll keep a written record of what we do. It is likely we will arrive on Tuesday 27th August. Perhaps we need to have a get together again with the Trustees which I believe means only Mikhail and Roger but which could include Vera and Wally. There seems to be a few important points to clear before we should progress. You are getting a bit late for the weeding. I''ll detail this in a post on the elf blog
To begin with I thought Roger expressed concern that we were moving too quickly without due concern for the responsibilities it entailed. Then I felt that Roger was concerned that we weren''t spending enough time there and had shown no attempt to get involved with the Agriculture. I believe we have had a very productive conversation since then at Mikhail''s house with you Roger. Jhana and I understand the responsibilities with regards the track and are looking at both sides; to use the car less and to help with the maintenance of the track. I hope our efforts have reassured you of our intention to adhere to the trusts objectives and to evolve organicly into the roles of beneficiaries and possibly trustees ourselves. I was particularly concerned about the cats. I like the view expressed by Mikhail where she said it was written into the original plan that if someone suitable wanted to use the land for purpose but already had a pet they could keep it/ them with the intent to not add any pets ever. The trust document is online and always has been at https://elf.calstock.org.uk/admin/trustdocs/deedv2.php. which I''m disappointed to think you haven''t read. Michal isn''t correct as you can see. I have all the paperwork, but the online is a copy of that registered with the Inland Revenue. Clearly there are things we have discussed which include the ideas that Michal mentioned, and in certain instances animals may be brought onto the land, but this isn''t one of them as far as I''m concerned. This also makes it important to review the trust documents to ensure any changes that can be made are made now whilst the founders are still alive
We can agree to this whole-heartedly. I have been thinking about this a great deal and am coming to the conclusion that I am not happy to re-house the cats because I feel a really strong, life-long duty of care and in considering alternatives this has become more clear , yet I have no difficulty in agreeing to not ever replace them when they die. Finally, although I do understand that contracts need to be signed for our mutual protection especially after investment of time and efforts, we are very grateful that you as a group of people were kind enough to put your land into trust to benefit people like us and we are hoping to fulfill that to the best of our ability and even the chance to try is satisfactory to us. If after some time it seems that we are unable to fulfill this we are willing to accept the loss that may entail and move on, this said as a verbal agreement for what it''s worth between honest individuals who have no intention to spoil what already exists on this beautiful and peaceful part of Cornwall. If your situation Roger is better for you as it is we are not intent on impacting negatively. If you are willing to chance experiencing the potential benefits we may bring and risk the perceieved benefits you already enjoy then we are happy to participate in this little experiment of shared responsibility and risk finding out if we can make it work, Let''s give it a try... If it doesn''t prove to be satisfactory we can make adjustments or leave.( Which interestingly enough is called moving on!!!)Won''t discuss these issues here as it''s too much work just thinking about all this', 'We have been exploring the idea of internet access on the land using mobile phone.
