Himalayan Balsam 2009
May 20th, 2008Have designed to curtail the weed this year, in five defined areas.
- Site 1: The 'Far Field boundary' between the higher and lower parts that in roughly defined by the lower field's eastern drainage channel.
- Site 2: The areas A to H that are being cleared of Giant Hogweed
- Site 3: The top and just 'East of Bund' to the boat, to stop spread to marsh to the west.
- Site 4: 'West of Bund' west of the bund, some 20metres wide, that has for years been cleared.
- Site 5: The new extended growth covering an acre in the East of the Marsh, just west of the above.

Have just sent Hugh Tyler of Natural England and email linking to and containing the map and details.
What could be done is all the rest of the marsh to ensure it is not spreading
What isn't being done is the mass on the lower fields north of the boat including the bunds adjacent the river.
Two were removed from Site 2A on 18th May. Lost exact details of those removed from Site EoB
4th Sept: Cleared sites 3,4,5 and 6 (3 bags)
Site 1 (28th July to 7th Aug) Tuai and I are cleared mostly by slashing.
Himalayan Balsam 2008
July 3rd, 2024All balsam was pulled from sites 2,3,4 and 5
Site 1 wasn't finished due to illnesses of both Steve and mine. This was a pity as it had been well done in previous years.
A 'new' area (6) was cut. I used a long handled hook and am intersested to see if there will be any difference this year.
Himalayan Balsam 2007
July 3rd, 2024Steve and I spent a couple of weeks in July and August (2007) clearing between the inner drain and up the flat in the far field. Sadly in late August we noticed an area missed in July and left a small patch.
Spent the best part of a two weeks clearing the western 80 metres of marsh.
Previously I have only notice Himalyan Balsam at the inner edge some 30 x 30 metres. This year there was a swathe running some extra 50 west and the full depth of the marsh in places. As they were noticed late and I was off for a few days due to an accident, many poped their seeds. Finished 8th September. Must start early August 2008.
